Dear Neighbor,

To keep you updated on all of my legislative work, I post across a number of online platforms including Instagram, X, Facebook, and Bluesky, and keep my website www.brookepintodc.com updated with important events, announcements and legislative work. As your Ward 2 Councilmember and Chairwoman of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, I have prioritized housing affordability, public safety, economic development, education, support for our seniors and LGBTQ+ community, transportation, and the environment – and our community partnerships continue on this important work. With your help, I have passed and introduced major legislation to keep DC safe and to deliver new economic opportunities, including:

• My Prosper DC plan, which is made up of 23 different bills to make housing more affordable and catalyze new economic opportunities for DC residents and businesses.
• The RECOVERY Act to launch the model to revitalize Downtown through office-to-housing conversions, mixed-use incentives, and business grants. DC is now leading the country in conversions with thousands of units of new housing being developed.  
• The BEST Act to streamline business licensing and reduce barriers for entrepreneurs, helping more residents start businesses and keep their businesses open.  
• The citywide Early Literacy Task Force, securing $5.5 million for science-based reading instruction and structured literacy training for teachers.
• My Secure DC Omnibus legislation, which included more than 100 public safety interventions. Since its passage and implementation in 2024, violent crime in DC has dropped more than 50 percent.
• My Peace DC plan, which has helped to continue to drive down crime and promote sustainable peace.

Legislative Updates

HEARINGS FOR PROSPER DC BILLS  

There are several upcoming hearings scheduled for some of Councilmember Pinto’s Prosper DC bills:

• Her Pathways to Prosperity for Young Parents Pilot Amendment Act will go before the Committee on Executive Administration and Labor on Friday, March 27th at 10:30am.

• Her Portable Tenant Screening Report Amendment Act will go before the Housing Committee on Monday, March 30th at 10am.

• Her Youth Villages Grant Establishment Amendment Act goes before the Youth Affairs Committee on Thursday, April 2nd at 10am.

MPD PERFORMANCE OVERSIGHT FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS

After Chairwoman Pinto’s nearly 12-hour long performance oversight hearing with MPD and other public safety agencies last month, we were provided a clearer sense of how the federal surge of officers is managed overall throughout the District, but many questions remained unanswered regarding the ongoing investigations into the three federal agency involved shootings and which agencies are handling arrests. Last week, MPD responded to several of Chairwoman Pinto’s follow-up questions about MPD’s role and findings in the federal agency investigations and other concerns. Her oversight work continues and we will keep you posted as we get more answers. You can read their full letter here.

DPW PERFORMANCE OVERSIGHT

On Wednesday, March 4th, Councilmember Pinto questioned the head of the Department of Public Works (DPW) during the DPW performance oversight hearing held by the Committee on Public Works and Operations about the District’s response to the snow emergency this winter. Councilmember Pinto pressed the DPW Director about complaints from constituents over lack of communication and confusion over the snow removal process, staffing shortages, and parking enforcement.

In the Community

Over the last two weeks, Councilmember Pinto and Team Pinto have met with residents, advocacy groups, and local and federal partners across the District, including:

• Meeting with the Fair Budget Coalition to discuss needs to prioritize in the budget including housing, healthcare, childcare, and more

• Speaking with neighbors at the Columbia Residences in the West End about neighborhood concerns and budget priorities

• Joining meeting with the Department of General Services (DGS) and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to discuss Ward 2 facility, park and recreation center repairs, and renovation projects

• Joining a public safety walk in Shaw to connect neighbors with MPD, violence interrupters, and the USAO to discuss solutions around public safety concerns

EARTH DAY CLEANUP

WARD 2 ROLL OFF DAY

The Roll Off Day 2026 schedule is now available. This is a chance for DC residents to bring bulk items for safe disposal and join neighbors to work together to keep DC clean. The upcoming Ward 2 Roll Off event will be held on Saturday, March 28th from 10am-2pm at Francis Field & Dog Park. Click here to check out the full list of items that are not accepted.
