Councilmember Brooke Pinto released the following statement in response to the recent U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development assessment of the DC Housing Authority.
“District residents deserve to have habitable and dignified places to live. The report released by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development assessing the DC Housing Authority outlines extraordinary deficiencies and failures in nearly every aspect of its mission and its leadership.
I am thoroughly reviewing the report with my staff and will be discussing it in detail with my colleagues in the Committee on Housing and Executive Administration and the entire DC Council.
What is clear is that immediate corrective actions are required. Thousands of residents could be in homes; however, their struggle to find a safe affordable home continues. The deficiencies outlined in the report are unacceptable failures of the DC Housing Authority that we will be working to address. The report is extremely disappointing and District residents deserve better.”
