Neighbors,

Mayor Bowser has issued a citywide curfew for the District of Columbia from 6:00 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, January 6, until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7.

At this time, thousands of white supremacists, militia members, and members of hate groups have stormed the United States Capitol in an attempt to end the Joint Session of the United States Congress to certify the electoral college votes. The storming of the Capitol and this violence is abhorrent.

Just as we did yesterday, we are urging all District residents and visitors to avoid the downtown area if possible. If you live or are currently in the downtown area, please avoid going outside and immediately seek shelter if you can.

During the hours of the curfew, no person, other than persons designated by the Mayor, shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand, or motor by car or other mode of transport upon any street, alley, park, or other public place within the District. The curfew imposed by the Mayor’s Order shall not apply to essential workers, including working media with their outlet-issued credentials, when engaged in essential functions, including travel to and from their essential work.
