Communications and Community Coordinator

Summary

The Office of Councilmember Brooke Pinto is seeking a Communications and Community Coordinator to assist in sharing the Councilmember’s priorities and community activities with the public through social media platforms, newsletter, and website. The Communications and Community Coordinator will work with the Chief of Staff to maintain and implement media and communications strategy for the Councilmember’s legislative agenda, as well as, develop a proactive constituent communications strategy and plan to creatively and effectively communicate the Councilmember’s messages through traditional and digital media. The Communications and Community Coordinator will work with the Constituent Services Director to  respond to constituent services inquiries and assist with community engagement events.  

Job Functions

Primary job functions include social media messaging preparation for the Councilmember, developing engaging digital content to communicate with the public, and drafting e-newsletter content. The Communications and Community Coordinator will work closely with the Constituent Services team to respond to constituent services inquiries and assist with community engagement events. The Communications and Community Coordinator will assist with managing the Councilmember’s social media activity on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and any other new social media platforms.  

The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator who can work under tight deadlines and on both short and long-term projects simultaneously. Candidate must be prepared to staff the Councilmember at public events including on evenings and some weekends. Candidate must be prepared to work in a collaborative environment that requires a high level of writing and content generation while also making messaging accessible.

Occasional evening and weekend availability is required.

Education/Experience

A bachelor’s degree or higher education level is required. Candidates must have previous communications experience with social media and traditional media. Candidates must have experience with Canva or other content creation platform. Experience with photography and videography is preferred. Experience with constituent services or customer service is preferred. Familiarity with maintaining a website is preferred.  

Salary, Etc.

Salary- $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience

DOMICILE REQUIREMENT: An appointee to the Excepted Service is required to be domiciled in the District of Columbia at the time of his or her appointment or become a domiciliary of the District of Columbia within 180 days of appointment and shall maintain such domicile during the period of appointment. (D.C. Official Code §§ 1609.06(a) and 1-610.59; and 6 DCMR B 305.)
