DC COUNCIL STANDS UNITED IN SENDING LETTER TO CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP URGING THEM NOT TO UNDERMINE DC AUTONOMY

Today, District of Columbia Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety Chairwoman Brooke Pinto, joined by all of their Council colleagues, sent a letter to Congressional leadership imploring them to stand up for the District’s right to self-government and reject any proposed attempt to overturn the District’s democratically enacted laws.

The letter, signed by all 13 Councilmembers, condemns Congress’ efforts to overturn duly enacted laws of the District of Columbia – a move that would significantly undermine the District’s autonomy. The letter comes the day before Congress is scheduled to meet to consider disapproval measures for “the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022” and “the Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022.”

The letter in its whole can be accessed here.
